The Skinbuzz Ingredient Glossary: What's Really In Your Skincare

Clean beauty gets thrown around a lot β€” and it doesn't mean much unless you can see exactly what's behind it. This is our full Skinbuzz breakdown: every hero ingredient we formulate with, what it actually does, and the ingredients we deliberately leave out.

What We Use

🐝 Propolis β€” A resin bees create from tree sap to seal and protect their hive. In skincare, it's antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant-rich β€” a go-to for acne-prone and reactive skin. Read the full propolis guide

🐝 Royal Jelly β€” The nutrient-dense substance bees feed to their queen. Rich in proteins, B-vitamins, and amino acids, it's prized for hydration and supporting collagen production. Read the full royal jelly guideΒ

🐝 Beeswax β€” A natural wax bees secrete to build the honeycomb. It seals in moisture, creates a breathable barrier, and is naturally non-comedogenic. Read the full beeswax guideΒ

🌿 Witch Hazel β€” A plant-derived astringent that helps balance oil and tighten the look of pores, commonly used in our toner.Β

πŸ–€ Activated Charcoal β€” A deep-cleansing ingredient that draws out oil, pollution, and impurities without stripping the skin. (dedicated page needed)

πŸͺ¨ Bentonite Clay β€” A mineral-rich clay that absorbs excess sebum and helps clarify congested pores.Β

🌱 Tea Tree Oil β€” A natural antimicrobial used to target blemishes and calm breakout-prone skin.Β

🌾 Willow Bark β€” A natural source of salicin, which works similarly to salicylic acid to gently exfoliate and clear congestion.

πŸƒ Green Tea Extract β€” Packed with antioxidants (catechins) that help defend skin against environmental stress.Β

🌡 Aloe Vera β€” A hydrating, soothing plant extract that calms irritation and supports the skin barrier.Β

What We Leave Out β€” and Why

  • Parabens β€” synthetic preservatives linked to hormone disruption concerns; we use natural preservation systems instead
  • Sulfates (SLS/SLES) β€” harsh detergents that can strip the skin's natural barrier
  • Synthetic fragrance β€” undisclosed fragrance blends that are a common source of skin irritation and sensitization
  • Phthalates β€” plasticizing chemicals often hidden inside "fragrance" on ingredient labels
  • Mineral oil / petrolatum β€” occlusive by-products of petroleum refining; we use plant and bee-derived emollients instead
